The Department of Public Health Dentistry, SGT University celebrated World Oral Health Day at Asharya- Home for Destitute Women, Sultanpur Village, Gurugram
Innova8 Oral Health Care an academic association constituted under the Department of Public
Health Dentistry, Faculty of Dental Sciences, SGT University celebrated World Oral Health
Day on 20th March 2023 at Asharya- Home for Destitute Women, Sultanpur Village,
Gurugram and on 21 st March 2023 by attending National Online Webinar organized by
Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
World Oral Health Day is an initiative of the FDI World Dental Federation, an organization
that brings the world of dentistry together in the pursuit of optimal oral health for all. Every
year on March 20, 2023, we observe World Oral Health Day with the goal of raising
awareness of the importance of oral hygiene and educating people about dental issues. This
year as part of initiatives by the National Oral Health Program (NOHP) Division of Ministry
of Health & Family Welfare, GOI
Dr. Shourya Tandon, as member of National Steering Group, NOHP was invited to attend the
National Webinar physically and shared the august platform with reputed members from Oral
Health Fraternity. All students and faculty members attended the webinar in the department
and also pledged to spread positive Oral Health.
The dental team on 20 th March was headed by Dr. Meenakshi Chopra (Advisor, Innova8 Oral
Health Care) along with student members of academic association. Two attendants Mr. Sunil
and Mr. Darshan accompanied the dental team. The event started with oral health screening
followed Oral Health Talk and Nukkad Natak which was presented by the BDS Interns, 4th
Year, 3rd year (Rashmit, Nisha, Reetika, Nikita, Tanisha, Muskan, Aman, Samridhi, Garima,
Palak, Sakshi Rai, Prateek, Preeti, Pawan, Ankit Dahiya, Rahul, Jyotsana, Arzoo, Sukanya,
Kanchan, Harshit, Diksha, Nallini, Mehak, Surbhi and Sakshi) explaining the role of good
oral health, focusing on the importance of maintenance of oral hygiene, adverse effects
tobacco and alcohol. Students also demonstrated the brushing techniques with help of models
and charts. Along with this, elements on significance of World Oral Health Day engrossing
the theme for this year ‘Be Proud of Your Mouth’ were included in the Nukkad Natak. The
activity was part of the month long Oral Health Celebrations being organized by the
department.
The dental students appreciated the opportunity given to them to organize the activities and
interact with patients at a community setting leading to improvement in their soft skills and
approach towards patients in an outreach location. The organization's head also presented a
vote of thanks with the appreciation letter and expressed gratitude to us for organizing the
dental camp for differently abled women.
