Unsafe medication practices and medication errors leading causes of injury and avoidable harm in health care systems

Unsafe medication practices and medication errors are a leading cause of injury and avoidable harm in health care systems across the globe. Association for safe medication aims at improving the health and wellbeing of people by improving research regarding medication safety.  In order to advocate patient safety, promote safe medication practices, and effective research “Association for safe medication” under the aegis of SGT College of Pharmacy, SGT University organized a Seminar on “Emerging Trends in Pharmacovigilance and Drug Safety” on 29th January 2022 at 10:00 AM onwards. Mr. Shrikrishan, Senior Drug Safety and PV Specialist, Syneos Healthcare, was the speaker.

The event was convened by Prof (Dr.) Vijay Bhalla, Principal, SGTCOP and coordinated by advisor Prof (Dr.) Sushma Chaturvedi, HOD (Pharmacology) co-advisors Dr. Vaibhav Walia, Ms. Sonika Shrivastav and Ms Sushma Maratha. Mr. Shrikrishan addressed the attendees about the importance of Pharmacovigilance and the use of various tools in Pharmacovigilance study.

He emphasized on the use of databases and the reporting of ADR using the software. He further added tha, ADR can be reported by anyone, and the reported ADR is then used for the causality assessment. 

Dr. Vaibhav Walia, Dr. Sanjay Sharma and Dr. Rahul Kumar also delivered the lectures in today’s event and put emphasis on the Adverse drug reactions, Pharmacovigilance Program of India and Establishment of Pharmacovigilance center. The event was registered and attended by more than 90 students and faculty members nationwide. Dr. Sushma Chaturvedi, HOD Pharmacology put the concluding remarks and vote of thanks.
