‘Namo 1’ Jersey: Team India’s Special Gift to PM Modi
The celebration of India’s historic Women’s World Cup victory continued as the champions visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi on Wednesday, November 5. The team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, presented the Prime Minister with a signed jersey featuring the name “Namo 1,” symbolizing their respect and gratitude.
PM Modi congratulated the players on their remarkable achievement, describing their triumph as a moment of pride for every Indian. He spent time interacting with the players, listening to their experiences from the tournament and their journey to victory.
During the meeting, Harmanpreet Kaur shared that the team had met the Prime Minister earlier in 2017 without a trophy, and returning now as world champions made the moment truly special. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana remarked that PM Modi’s motivational words have always inspired them to dream bigger, adding that his support continues to empower women athletes across India.
Deepti Sharma, named Player of the Tournament, mentioned that the team had planned the special “Namo 1” gift. She recalled the Prime Minister’s earlier advice to “stay focused and work hard” and noted that his words had now turned into reality.
PM Modi noticed Deepti’s Hanuman tattoo and her “Jai Shri Ram” post on Instagram, to which she responded that her faith gives her strength. Harmanpreet also asked the Prime Minister how he manages to stay calm under pressure. Smiling, he replied, “Being in the moment is my habit and my strength.”
The meeting concluded with cheerful photos, laughter, and heartfelt gratitude, marking not just a sporting victory but also a celebration of women’s empowerment in Indian cricket.
