Delhi Government Grants Tax-Free Status to Farhan Akhtar’s War Film ‘120 Bahadur’

New Delhi: In a strong tribute to India’s military courage, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced tax-free status for Farhan Akhtar’s latest war drama, 120 Bahadur. The film, which highlights the valour of Charlie Company, 13 Kumaon Regiment, during the 1962 Sino-Indian War, will now be exempt from entertainment tax across the national capital from November 28.

The Chief Minister praised the film for its powerful and respectful portrayal of the Battle of Rezang La, one of the most heroic chapters in Indian military history. Sharing her message on X, she wrote that 120 Bahadur “honours the extraordinary courage, leadership, and sacrifice of the 120 soldiers of Charlie Company”. She commended the film for bringing their inspiring story to the forefront.

Rekha Gupta highlighted the exceptional leadership of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, whose bravery and ultimate sacrifice have become defining symbols of India’s military legacy. Calling the film a significant reminder of the nation’s heroes, she added that the tax exemption is a mark of respect for soldiers who fought with unwavering commitment in extreme conditions.

Story Rooted in Real Heroism

The film draws heavily on historical accounts of the Rezang La battle, in which on November 18, 1962, the 13 Kumaon Regiment—comprising mostly Ahir soldiers—held off a much larger Chinese force. According to the film’s producers, the troops inflicted substantial damage on the enemy despite being severely outnumbered. Their resilience, unity, and tactical brilliance remain a matter of national pride.

The narrative centers on Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, played by Farhan Akhtar, whose courage on the battlefield earned him the Param Vir Chakra (posthumous). His leadership has been etched into Indian military history as one of the most extraordinary examples of bravery.

Praise From the Film Industry

National Award-winning actor Shabana Azmi applauded Farhan Akhtar’s transformation for the role, expressing her admiration for his dedication. She noted that it is hard to believe the same actor once played lighthearted roles and now portrays one of India’s greatest war heroes with such intensity.
