Sitaare Zameen Par to Stream Soon on SonyLIV

Aamir Khan’s sports comedy-drama is set to stream soon on SonyLIV, as announced by the makers on Monday, March 09, 2026. This upcoming digital release will be significant as it marks the first Hindi theatrical film to premiere on the platform.

Directed by RS Prasanna, the film was originally released in theaters in June 2025 and achieved major commercial success, reportedly earning over ₹250 crore at the box office, making it one of the standout Bollywood releases of the year.

The film features a strong ensemble cast, including Genelia Deshmukh, Ashish Pendse, Aroush Datta, Aayush Bhansali, Rishi Shahani, Gopikrishnan K. Varma, Rishabh Jain, Vedant Sharma, Simran Mangeshkar, Samvit Desai, and Naman Misra.

A remake of the Spanish film Champions, Sitaare Zameen Par follows the story of Gulshan Arora, played by Aamir Khan, who is an assistant coach for a major basketball team. His life takes an unexpected turn after a drunk-driving incident leads him to court. Instead of serving time in jail, he is ordered to complete 90 days of community service.

As part of his sentence, Gulshan is assigned to coach a team of neurodivergent players and prepare them for a basketball tournament. What begins as a punishment soon transforms into a meaningful journey, where he learns valuable lessons about empathy, patience, and teamwork.

Notably, the film had already experimented with a unique digital distribution strategy before its OTT release. In July 2025, about a month after its theatrical run, Aamir Khan decided to bypass traditional OTT platforms and release the film directly on his YouTube channel, Aamir Khan Talkies, using a pay-per-view model.

Under this system, viewers could watch the film by paying around ₹100 per view. At the time, Aamir explained that this approach was an attempt to make cinema more accessible while also experimenting with a new distribution model. He preferred earning directly from audiences rather than accepting large licensing deals from streaming platforms, describing the concept as creating a “private cinema chain” where viewers could watch films from their homes or on their phones.

Produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Aparna Purohit, the film is written by Divy Nidhi Sharma.

Additionally, the movie serves as a spiritual sequel to the critically acclaimed 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, which explored the challenges faced by a dyslexic child portrayed by Darsheel Safary.

With its upcoming release on SonyLIV, **Sitaare Zameen Par** is expected to reach a wider digital audience and continue its journey beyond theaters and experimental online releases.
