IMD Forecasts Wet Spell And Monsoon Advance Across India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a wet spell across large parts of the country, bringing a mixture of rain, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hailstorms over the next few days. This weather update coincides with the gradual advancement of the southwest monsoon across India, providing relief from the summer heat while also prompting caution in several regions.

According to the IMD, northwest India is expected to remain under the influence of this wet spell until tomorrow. The states in this region may encounter thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and isolated hailstorms, particularly during the evening and nighttime hours.

The IMD also indicated that conditions are becoming increasingly favorable for the southwest monsoon to move further into Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, parts of West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh within the next two to three days.

For many residents, the arrival of monsoon showers is welcome news after weeks of soaring temperatures. However, officials have advised people to remain alert, especially in areas that are vulnerable to waterlogging, strong winds, and lightning strikes.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya over the next four days. These northeastern states are expected to receive significant precipitation, which may impact daily life and transportation in some areas.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is likely tomorrow in Bihar, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim. The IMD has urged local authorities and residents to stay updated with weather advisories.

Thunderstorms and lightning activity are also expected across Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Uttarakhand during the next two days.

In southern India, strong surface winds are likely to persist over coastal Karnataka and south interior of Karnataka until Monday. Fishermen and coastal residents have been advised to exercise caution.

As monsoon clouds continue to spread across the country, the coming days are anticipated to bring both much-needed rainfall and weather-related challenges. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urging citizens to follow official forecasts and safety advisories.
