India Complete 3-0 T20I Series Sweep Against Afghanistan
India completed a 3-0 T20I series sweep against Afghanistan after defeating the visitors by 127 runs in the third and final match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on September 17.
The match was highlighted by a record-breaking performance from Indian opener Abhishek Sharma, who smashed a century from just 30 balls. He eventually scored 108 runs from 34 deliveries, including nine fours and 11 sixes. His explosive innings helped India establish a strong position after being asked to bat first.
Abhishek and Sanju Samson provided India with a powerful start. The opening partnership produced 142 runs before Afghanistan fought back with wickets. Samson contributed 50 runs, while India eventually finished their 20 overs at 221 for seven.
Chasing 222, Afghanistan struggled to build momentum. India’s bowlers made early breakthroughs and kept control throughout the innings. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravi Bishnoi took three wickets each, while Axar Patel also contributed two. Afghanistan were eventually bowled out for 94 in 14.1 overs, giving India a 127-run victory.
Abhishek’s century was also significant from a record perspective. His 30-ball hundred became the fastest T20I century by an Indian batter and the fastest century by a batter representing a full ICC member nation, according to match reports.
The victory completed India’s clean sweep in the three-match series. The result also capped a strong individual performance from Abhishek Sharma, while India’s batting and bowling units combined effectively to secure the final match.
With the series concluded, the teams now move towards their respective upcoming commitments, with India scheduled to head to Japan for the Asian Games beginning September 19.
