Bihar Becomes First State to Launch Android-Based E-Voting System

Bihar is all set to become the first state in India to roll out an Android-based e-voting system, marking a major digital leap in the country’s electoral process. The Bihar State Election Commission announced that this initiative will begin with the upcoming municipal and urban body elections scheduled for 28th June.

Speaking to Akashvani News, State Election Commissioner Deepak Prasad stated that the primary goal of this move is to simplify the voting process, making it faster and more accessible for citizens. The system will operate via a specially designed Android mobile application, allowing voters to cast their ballots from the comfort of their homes using a smartphone.

This innovative step is expected to boost voter turnout, particularly among urban residents, tech-savvy youth, and those unable to physically reach polling booths. It also reduces the logistical challenges of managing large-scale physical voting infrastructure.

If the pilot run during the 28th June elections proves successful, it could pave the way for other states to adopt similar digital voting systems in the future. Bihar’s initiative is being seen as a significant advancement in promoting digital democracy and modernizing the traditional election process in India.
