Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology organizes a Guest lecture on the topic “Tobacco cessation in Dental Practice: Strategies for Success” to commemorate “World No Tobacco Day 2023”

Tobacco is the major cause of Oral potentially malignant and malignant disorders affecting the oral and maxillofacial region. It is a preventable cause of death due to advanced oral cancers. Since it leads to tobacco dependence and serious health problems, tobacco cessation is extremely important and relevant in dental practice as dentists are the first persons to recognize the variety of oral lesions caused by tobacco consumption. Thus, the Advanced Stomato-diagnostician Association under the aegis of the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Faculty of Dental Sciences, SGT University organized a Guest lecture on the topic “Tobacco cessation in Dental Practice: Strategies for Success” to commemorate “World No Tobacco Day 2023”.


Students from BDS 3rd year, final year, interns, post-graduate students, and faculty members from various departments attended the lecture. The resource person for the guest lecture was Dr. Manu Dhillon, Dean- of Academics, Professor & Head, DJ Centre of Dental Studies and Research, Ghaziabad. The event was conceptualized by Dr. Astha Chaudhry, Professor and in charge, OMR, and coordinated by Dr Vishesh Yadav, Associate Professor, department of Oral Medicine & Radiology.

The lecture focused on strategies for successfully helping patients quit tobacco use in dental practice. Dr. Manu Dhillon shared valuable insights and expertise on this important topic, highlighting the significance of tobacco cessation in preventing oral diseases. The aim was to enhance the understanding of students and faculty members regarding effective methods and approaches to support patients in quitting tobacco.
