Dwarka Expressway Gets India’s First AI-Powered Smart Traffic System

Delhi, June 25, 2025 — In a significant advancement for smart infrastructure, the Dwarka Expressway is now home to India’s first AI-powered Smart Traffic Management System, as outlined in the 2023 NHAI guidelines.

The Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) project was developed collaboratively by the Indian Highways Management Company Ltd (IHMCL) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The system covers a total length of 56.46 kilometers, making it a national pilot model for AI-led traffic governance.

This innovative system utilizes Artificial Intelligence to monitor, manage, and streamline vehicular flow. It ensures quicker responses to congestion, enhances surveillance, and improves road safety. With real-time data, automated alerts, and intelligent incident detection, this system represents a significant upgrade to India’s traffic infrastructure.

Authorities emphasize that the Dwarka Expressway project serves as a flagship model that could be replicated across major expressways throughout India.
