Cloudbursts Trigger Flash Floods in Himachal Pradesh; 2 Dead, Several Missing in Kangra and Kullu
Kangra/Kullu, Himachal Pradesh | June 26, 2025: Multiple cloudbursts triggered massive flash floods across the Kangra and Kullu districts of Himachal Pradesh late Wednesday, claiming the lives of at least two individuals, with several others still missing.
The tragedy occurred in Khaniyara village near Dharamshala, where a power project site was severely affected by the sudden heavy downpour. Most of the workers present at the site were daily wage laborers. Rescue teams quickly reached the scene, and so far, two bodies have been recovered. Officials estimate that between seven and ten people are still unaccounted for.
The Chief Minister’s Office has confirmed that this is an evolving situation, and the Deputy Commissioner’s office is continuously monitoring developments. Emergency responders, police, and district administration officials are coordinating rescue efforts on the ground.

In response to the situation, the Mandi district administration issued alerts following another cloudburst in the Sainj Valley of Kullu. Citizens have been warned about the potential release of water from the Panhoh dam into the Beas River and are urged to stay away from riverbanks.
BJP President JP Nadda expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and affirmed the full support of the government in ongoing rescue operations.
