IMD Warns of Very Heavy Rainfall in Kerala, Northeast and More States
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nationwide weather alert forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across several regions over the next few days. States likely to be impacted include Kerala, Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra, Goa, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and most parts of the Northeast.
According to IMD, a fresh Western Disturbance is set to impact the northwestern region of India from May 29 onwards, bringing rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds to states like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon continues its gradual advance and has already covered parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and northeastern states. IMD forecasts show favourable conditions for its further movement into more regions in the coming days.
Delhi is expected to remain partly cloudy with the possibility of light rain till May 31. However, the spotlight remains on southern and northeastern India, where extreme weather is likely to cause disruptions. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Kerala and Mahe till May 30, while Karnataka may face similar conditions until May 29.
The Konkan and Goa regions are expected to witness widespread light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. These weather conditions are likely to continue until June 2, bringing much-needed rainfall but also raising concerns about waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
Meanwhile, West Rajasthan may experience isolated dust storms, further adding to the diversity of weather patterns currently observed across the country.
Authorities have urged residents in affected regions to stay updated through official IMD bulletins and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of intense weather activity.
