India claimed its fifth Asian Champions Trophy title by defeating China 1-0 in the final on Tuesday. Jugraj Singh scored the only goal in the 51st minute, helping India secure the win against a tough Chinese team.
The match started with China applying pressure, similar to their earlier meeting in the tournament, where India won by 3-0. The Indian team, led by Harmanpreet Singh, found it hard to break through China’s solid defense.
India’s first big chance came in the first quarter when Sukhjeet’s shot was saved by the Chinese goalkeeper. The team earned a penalty corner in the 9th minute, but the Chinese defense held strong. India had another opportunity, but Harmanpreet missed the target. China ended the quarter better, forcing Indian goalkeeper Krishan Pathak into several saves.
The second quarter was tight, with China focusing on defense. India almost scored in the 27th minute when Harmanpreet’s shot hit the post. A penalty stroke was initially awarded to India but was overturned after a review by China, leaving the score 0-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, India continued to attack, but China’s defense was tough. Pathak made a key save in the 41st minute to keep the score level.
In the final quarter, India applied more pressure and finally scored in the 51st minute. Harmanpreet made a great run and set up Jugraj, who scored the winning goal.
China pushed hard for an equalizer, even bringing on a flying goalkeeper, but the Indian defense stayed strong. This victory marks another great achievement for India in the Asian Champions Trophy.
