International seminar on Contemporary bio ethical issues- “Quintessential ethics 2022″ in SGT University

The UNESCO Bioethics Unit of SGT university in collaboration with the International Chair in Bioethics organized an International Seminar on Contemporary Bioethical issues- “Quintessential Ethics 2022” on 13th August 2022.
The program included distribution of Writs of appointment to the reconstituted Bioethics Unit headed by Prof(Dr) O.P. Kalra, Vice Chancellor, SGT University.
Another highlight of the event was the constitution of the Students wing of Bioethics Unit and presentation of writs of appointment to President and Secretary of the Students wing by the chief guest Prof(Dr.) Russell D’Souza, Head, Asia Pacific Division, International Chair in Bioethics, Haifa.
The scientific deliberations from the eminent speakers from various parts of the country and abroad were on contemporary ethical issues including the role of Ethics in national education Policy 2020, Sustainable development goals and education, Ethics of war, Ethical perspectives in healthcare during pandemic, Ethics in the digital era, Understanding ethical issues pertaining to vulnerability for health care professionals and End-of-life care issues.

Oration Lecture was Given by the Chief Guest Dr Russell D Souza and he was also presented the “Shree Guru Gobind Singh Tricentenary University Oration Award” by the Vice Chancellor and Chairpersons of the session. The event was conducted in a hybrid mode and many members of the Bioethics fraternity across the world joined the event online. Some of the chairpersons also connected online.
There were a total of about 450 participants who joined us physically as well as online.
The event was graced by the presence of senior University officials including Prof Vinod Sharma, Pro-Vice Chancellor(Admin), Prof Vikas Dhawan, Pro-Vice Chancellor(academics) who joined us online, Prof Madan Chaturvedi, Advisor cum provost, Prof Sumer Singh, Advisor, Prof Sham Lal Singla, Advisor, Prof Waheeda Khan, Advisor, Prof Reena Nayyar, Executive Director FMHS who joined us online, and Deans of faculty.
The Organizing Chairperson for the program was Dr Satish Chander Sharma, Director IQAC and Lead, Bioethics Unit and Organizing Secretary was Dr Astha Chaudhry, Secretary Bioethics Unit.
Overall, It was an intellectually stimulating and enriching experience.
