Khan Global Classes Sealed in Prayagraj Amid Safety Crackdown
A day after a devastating fire at a coaching institute in Lucknow claimed the lives of 15 people, authorities in Prayagraj ramped up inspections of educational institutions and sealed Khan Global Classes, a coaching institute associated with the well-known educator Khan Sir. This action is part of a larger statewide initiative to ensure that coaching centres comply with safety standards, building regulations, and land-use requirements.
The sealing operation occurred at the institute’s Civil Lines location in Prayagraj on Tuesday. Following the directions of Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) Vice-Chairman Rishi Raj, an enforcement team led by Zonal Officer Gangesh Kumar Singh conducted the inspection and subsequent action. Before sealing the premises, students present at the centre were asked to leave, and all administrative activities were halted.
Officials also posted a notice outside the building warning that any attempt to break the seal or resume operations without official approval could result in legal action, including the registration of a First Information Report (FIR). This move has raised concerns among coaching institute operators throughout the city, many of whom are now reviewing their compliance status.
According to PDA officials, the issue was not related to the fire incident at the Prayagraj centre, but rather to violations of land-use regulations. Authorities stated that while the building was approved for commercial activities, coaching institutes are categorized as community service facilities and require separate permission for such use. Officials claimed that the necessary approval had not been obtained, leading to the enforcement action.
This development comes amid increasing concerns regarding safety standards in educational institutions following the Lucknow tragedy. The fire incident raised questions about emergency preparedness, fire safety measures, and adherence to regulations in coaching centres that experience heavy student foot traffic daily.
As inspections continue across Uttar Pradesh, authorities have indicated that more institutions may face action if violations are found. The ongoing initiative aims to ensure that educational establishments meet safety and regulatory requirements, preventing future tragedies and creating a safer environment for students pursuing their academic goals.
