LPG Price Update: Commercial Cylinder Gets Cheaper from May 1; No Change in Domestic Rates

New Delhi, May 1, 2025 — In line with the routine practice of revising fuel prices on the first day of every month, oil marketing companies have announced a reduction in the price of commercial LPG cylinders. From May 1, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has been reduced by ₹14.5, offering a significant relief to business consumers on Labour Day.

With the new revision, the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder will now cost ₹1747.50 in Delhi, down from the previous price of ₹1762. Similarly, in Kolkata, the price has been reduced by ₹17, bringing the new rate to ₹1851.50. In Mumbai, users will pay ₹1699 instead of ₹1713.50, and in Chennai, the revised price is ₹1906, compared to the earlier ₹1921.50.

Typically, oil companies implement these price changes at 6:00 a.m. on the first of every month. However, this month’s revision was carried out around 7:30 a.m., leading to some initial confusion about whether the update would be delayed until May 2. Nonetheless, the new prices have been confirmed and are effective from May 1.

No Change in Domestic LPG Cylinder Prices

While the commercial segment has seen a reduction, domestic LPG users will not experience any change in prices this month. The last price cut for the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder was made on April 8, 2025, and remains unchanged as of May 1.

As per current rates:

  • In Delhi, a domestic LPG cylinder costs ₹853.

  • In Kolkata, the price is ₹879.

  • In Mumbai, it is available for ₹852.

  • In Chennai, users are paying ₹868.50.

This move is seen as a measure to ease cost burdens for commercial users, particularly small businesses and food outlets, while keeping domestic household budgets stable.

Jet Fuel Prices Also Revised

In addition to LPG, oil companies have also updated aviation turbine fuel (ATF) rates for May. The new per kilolitre rates are:

  • Delhi: $768.09

  • Kolkata: $806.46

  • Mumbai: $768.23

  • Chennai: $763.34

These adjustments in ATF prices are part of the regular monthly exercise influenced by international crude oil trends and currency exchange fluctuations.

What This Means for Consumers

The reduction in commercial LPG prices comes as a relief for businesses, particularly in the food and hospitality sectors, which depend heavily on commercial cooking gas. While domestic consumers may not see immediate monetary relief, stable rates offer predictability in monthly expenses.

Oil companies are expected to continue adjusting fuel rates in response to global market dynamics. Consumers are advised to stay updated through official portals and local distributors.
