Students from Manipal University College, Malaysia visits SGT University for observership.
6 students from Manipal University College, Malaysia, are in SGT University for 9 days of the “Student Elective Observership Program” for an observership program. The program started from 19-27th March 2023. The program is being organized by the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Faculty of Dental Sciences at SGT University.
The students from Malaysia were exposed to the surgical management of Orofacial Clefts and Maxillofacial Trauma through live surgical transmission. They were explained in detail, the clinical presentation of cases, and a description of the surgical steps by the team of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at SGT University. They also learned about the clinical examination of Oral Cancer and Orofacial Infection cases from the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology
Dr. Omkar Shetty, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, said “The students observed cases of severe oral diseases, something that Malaysia as a country does not see much of, primarily due to a lack of tobacco chewing habits there. This visit will serve as a great exposure for them, to learn about the serious and challenging cases that we handle here in India.”
“When they saw the visuals of the nature of cases that we deal with every day, they were left shocked, as it was something they had never seen or experienced before,” remarked Dr. Astha Chaudhary, Professor and In-Charge of the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology. She also mentioned additional topics that the students gained knowledge on, including Radiology Therapy, Laser Treatment, and the role of Ayurveda in Oral Health.
The overall experience, according to the students, was enriching as they got a fresh perspective on the diagnosis and management of tough cases. To round off the whole trip, the office of the Dean of Student Welfare and the Faculty of Mass Communication and Media Technology, held a movie screening in the evening for the guests.
