Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak celebrates Rang Bahar

The Rangmahostav 2022 started at MDU Rohtak today, with Rang Bahar, a celebration of with colour and fragrance of flowers at the university rose garden. This is the second edition of Rangmahotsav, showcasing unique colours of life of this wonderful state of Haryana. Professor Samar Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Maharana Pratap Horticultural University was the Chief Guest.
Conceived by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh, the festival is aimed at presenting, protecting and preserving the art and culture of Haryana, reflected in many different aspects. The Flower Show (Rang Bahar), shall be followed by events like Painting Workshop and Exhibition (Rang Srijan), Literary Festival (Rang Kalam), Theatre festival (Rang Raas), Music Festival (Rang Sur), Food Festival (Rang Vyanjan) and Folk Festival (Rang Tarang). This time the festival spans over a period of one month, till 7th April, 2022.
The inaugural event today witnessed a magnificent display of flowers/plants along with traditional Haryanvi music and Been performances. Activities like rangoli competition, flower display, selfie contest, on the spot painting, photo/books (horticulture)/art and artifacts exhibitions, photography contest, workshops on nest making and Haryana biodiversity and compost making workshops by Rohtak Nagar Nigam, etc. comprised the event. The selfie points were the major attraction of the show. Professor Samar Singh, and MDU VC Prof Rajbir Singh, along with senior officials of the university visited every stall and interacted with the students and the artists. University’s First Lady Dr. Sharanjeet, Dean Academic Affairs Prof Navratan Sharma and Advisor VC-MDU Prof AK Rajan were also present.
Speaking at the occasion Prof Samar Singh said, “Flowers speak a thousand words. They begin and end with our lives. Medicinal plants are used in so many treatments. It is also a flourishing business and a fine avenue for self-employment. It should not be a one-day event, but throughout the year. Rangmahotsav shall also inspire other universities undertake such initiatives as it will serve a very effective tool for cultural exchanges and enrichment in the state of Haryana. I congratulate the whole team of the festival, especially Prof Rajbir Singh, who conceived such a progressive and inspiring event.” He further said, “MDU can easily compete with world’s best in terms of horticulture and cleanliness. I am inclined to share our expertise with MDU and shall also sign an MoU for such future collaborations.”
VC Prof Rajbir Singh also addressed the audience and said, “This time of the season (Phagun) is a month of celebrations. Rangmahotsav, which is a celebration of different colours of life, shall light up our lives round the year and we bring this positive energy and synergy to our work. And flowers are an integral part of our daily lives where no ritual is complete without them. In the last three years, the Horticulture department has put in a lot of efforts for a greener and healthier university. We have extended the span of this event this time, in line with the academic calendar of the students. We constantly strive to make the youth and the students employable by expanding their skill sets. Haryana being an agriculture dominant state, horticulture can be a great mean of self-employment. I am sure we can engage students in horticulture, in collaboration with Maharana Pratap Horticultural University, so that they can improve their lives with new learning and enhanced income.”
The VC also praised the organizers of the event under Prof Rajkumar, Dean, Students’ Welfare and Convener Rang Bahar Prof Vinita Hooda for their efforts and stated that MDU is today number one university in the state of Haryana and with our efforts, we shall be able to elevate it to Top 25 in the near future.
Guest of Honour, Chairperson, Global Haryana Balander Kundu, MDU Registrar Prof. Gulshan Lal Taneja, Dean, Students’ Welfare Prof. RajKumar also spoke on the occasion. Commissioner, Rohtak Municipal Corporation Nar Hari Singh Bangar was also present. Convener of the programme, HoD (Botany) Prof. Vineeta Hooda expressed the vote of Thanks. Director Youth Welfare Dr. Jagbir Rathee & faculty member, Dept. of Music, Dr. Saurabh Verma conducted the stage. Senior University functionaries, Deans Head of Depts, students, non-teaching employees, citizens of Rohtak, etc. graced the event.
