Money-Related Changes from July 2025: Key Updates in Train Ticketing, Bank Fees, and EPF Rules

New Delhi | June 30, 2025: As the new month begins on July 1, 2025, several important money-related changes are set to come into effect. These updates will significantly impact bank customers, Indian Railways passengers, and EPF (Employees’ Provident Fund) members. The revised policies range from Tatkal ticket booking regulations to banking service fees and deadlines for UAN activation.

1. Tatkal Ticket Booking: Aadhaar Now Mandatory

Indian Railways has introduced a critical update for passengers booking Tatkal train tickets online.

  • Starting July 1, Aadhaar-based authentication will be mandatory for booking Tatkal tickets online via IRCTC.

  • Users must link their Aadhaar number to their IRCTC user profile and complete the necessary validation process.

  • From July 15, OTP-based verification using Aadhaar will also be required at the time of ticket booking.

Additionally, authorised agents will no longer be able to book Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the booking window. All Tatkal bookings at PRS counters or through agents will also now require OTP authentication, adding another security layer.

2. Bank Fee Revisions: Axis and ICICI Bank

Several leading banks have revised service fees affecting millions of account holders:

Axis Bank

  • Applicable from July 1, ATM transaction fees beyond the free limit are set to rise.

  • Old Fee: ₹21 per transaction

  • New Fee: ₹23 per transaction

  • The change applies to Savings Accounts, NRI, Trust Accounts, and some Priority and Burgundy customers.

  • The bank has also updated charges for other banking services such as trust accounts and ATM withdrawals.

ICICI Bank

ICICI Bank has also revised multiple service charges effective July 1, 2025. The updated fee structure includes:

  • ATM transaction fees at non-ICICI Bank ATMs (in metro and non-metro cities)

  • Charges on demand drafts, cash deposits and withdrawals, and debit card-related services

Customers are advised to check the updated fee schedule on the bank’s official website or app to avoid surprise deductions.

3. EPF UAN Activation Deadline Ends

The last date to activate Universal Account Number (UAN) and link it with Aadhaar and bank account is June 30, 2025. EPF members who fail to complete this linkage may face issues in accessing their PF accounts and availing benefits.

These updates reflect a significant push towards digital verification, secure financial transactions, and streamlined regulatory compliance. Users are advised to stay informed and take necessary action before the changes come into force.
