UP Launches ₹5 Lakh Cashless Health Scheme for Teachers and Education Staff

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a significant welfare initiative for teachers and education staff called the Chief Minister’s Teachers’ Cashless Medical Scheme. This program aims to provide healthcare security and financial support to employees in the education sector. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath introduced the scheme in Varanasi, which is expected to benefit over 1.5 million teaching and non-teaching staff across the state.

Under this new scheme, eligible beneficiaries and their family members can access cashless medical treatment worth up to ₹5 lakh. The initiative covers employees from both basic and secondary education departments, offering relief to thousands of families who often face financial hardships during medical emergencies.

The scheme is inclusive, extending benefits not only to regular teachers but also to Shiksha Mitras, instructors, cooks, and other eligible employees working in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas. By broadening the scope of beneficiaries, the government aims to enhance social security within the education system.

A notable aspect of the program is its partnership with the State Bank of India, with which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed to provide additional social security coverage. According to the government, this initiative combines healthcare support with insurance protection, making it one of the most comprehensive welfare programs for education employees in the country.

Contractual employees earning more than ₹10,000 per month will receive personal accident insurance coverage ranging from ₹30 lakh to ₹80 lakh. In cases of permanent disability, employees will be eligible for insurance benefits within the same range, while partial disability coverage will range from ₹15 lakh to ₹40 lakh. The scheme also includes air accident insurance and additional support measures for employees’ families, such as assistance with children’s education and daughters’ marriages in the event of an unfortunate incident.

While speaking at the launch event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that the government has fulfilled its commitment to protecting the health and social security of teachers. This initiative is being hailed as a first-of-its-kind program designed specifically for employees within the state’s education department.

As healthcare costs continue to rise, this scheme is expected to provide much-needed financial security and peace of mind to countless teachers and support staff, who play a crucial role in shaping the future of the state.
