Trial Runs of Namo Bharat Trains Begin on Extended 6-Km Corridor in Meerut

The trial runs of Namo Bharat trains have begun on an additional 6-kilometer stretch between Meerut South and Shatabdi Nagar, marking a significant advancement in enhancing regional rapid transit connectivity. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) announced this development on Sunday, bringing the Namo Bharat corridor closer to the center of Meerut city.

According to an official statement, this newly operational segment will feature one Namo Bharat station at Shatabdi Nagar and two Meerut Metro stations—Partapur and Rithani. Once fully operational, Namo Bharat trains will provide a fast and efficient transit option between New Ashok Nagar and Shatabdi Nagar, reducing the 61-kilometer travel time to under 45 minutes.

Shatabdi Nagar station will serve as the second Namo Bharat station in Meerut, integrating both Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro services. This critical transit hub will streamline passenger movement and provide seamless connectivity to Delhi and Modipuram. The station is designed with two entry-exit gates on either side of the road, ensuring easy access for commuters.

Simultaneously, trial runs for the Meerut Metro are underway on the Meerut South to Meerut Central stretch. Notably, this initiative marks the first time in India that a local metro system will operate on the same infrastructure as a regional rapid transit system, setting a new standard in urban transit planning.

The Meerut Metro corridor spans 23 kilometers, including 18 kilometers of elevated tracks and 5 kilometers of underground sections, with a total of 13 stations, three of which are located underground. Both Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro services will be available at strategic locations, including Meerut South, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram.

Currently, Namo Bharat train services cover a 55-kilometer stretch from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South, incorporating 11 stations: New Ashok Nagar, Anand Vihar, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Muradnagar, Modi Nagar South, Modi Nagar North, and Meerut South. With the addition of the Meerut South to the Shatabdi Nagar segment, the operational network will expand to 61 kilometers, covering a total of 12 Namo Bharat stations.

This expansion is expected to significantly enhance connectivity, offering a faster, more reliable mode of transportation for daily commuters while also reducing congestion on road networks. The NCRTC continues to make progress toward modernizing regional mobility and reinforcing its commitment to providing sustainable and efficient transit solutions for the National Capital Region.
