PM Modi Embarks on Major 4-State Visit, Virtually Joins Sikkim Event

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commenced a significant two-day visit to four Indian states to launch and inaugurate major infrastructure and development projects. This multi-state tour includes West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and a virtual participation in Sikkim due to adverse weather conditions.

Originally scheduled to begin his visit in Sikkim, PM Modi had to address the 50th anniversary celebrations of the state’s formation virtually from Bagdogra. “I also wanted to be a part of this celebration with you. I left Delhi early in the morning and reached Bagdogra, but the weather prevented me from going further,” the Prime Minister said in his address. He added, “I apologise to all of you. I assure you that whenever the state government decides, I will come to Sikkim and attend the celebrations.”

During the virtual event titled “Sikkim@50: Where Progress meets Purpose and Nature Nurtures Growth,” PM Modi announced key initiatives, including a ₹750 crore 500-bed hospital in Namchi, a new passenger ropeway in Gyalshing, and the unveiling of a statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Gangtok. A commemorative stamp and coin were also released.

In West Bengal, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for a ₹1,010 crore City Gas Distribution project in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar. The project aims to provide piped natural gas to over 2.5 lakh households and establish 19 CNG stations.

Later in the evening, the Prime Minister arrived in Bihar, where he inaugurated the new terminal building of Patna airport, built at a cost of ₹1,200 crore. He also laid the foundation stone for the civil enclave of the Bihta airport. On May 30, he will launch additional projects worth ₹48,520 crore in Bihar, including a mega power plant and major road and rail infrastructure upgrades.

In Uttar Pradesh, PM Modi will inaugurate the Kanpur Central Metro stretch and launch power projects such as the Panki and Ghatampur Thermal Power Plants, valuedat  over ₹17,000 crore collectively. He will also open sewage treatment plants, rail overbridges, and road projects that will support the UP Defence Corridor.

The 4-state tour underscores the government’s commitment to regional development, energy security, healthcare, and ease of living through infrastructure advancement.
