PM Modi Attends G7 Summit After Visiting Cyprus

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attends the 51st G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada today. Upon his arrival in Calgary, he receives a warm welcome from members of the Indian diaspora, who express their happiness and excitement about the visit.

Before reaching Canada, PM Modi completes a diplomatic visit to Cyprus on June 12, where he holds key discussions with the Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides. The two leaders talk about strengthening bilateral ties, regional cooperation, and working together on global issues. At the end of the visit, India and Cyprus adopt a Joint Declaration to deepen their partnership.

PM Modi also receives the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, the highest civilian honor of Cyprus. He dedicates the award to the friendship between India and Cyprus and shares a message on social media saying, “Humbled to receive the Grand Cross. I dedicate it to the friendship between our nations.”

Members of the Indian community in Canada say PM Modi’s visit brings hope for a new beginning in India-Canada relations, especially after recent political tensions. Nidhi Lodha, a Calgary-based Indian, says, “We are happy PM Modi is visiting. His visit will start a new era in India-Canada partnership, especially with the changing political stance in Ottawa.”

With this visit, India continues its tradition of participating in G7 Summits since 2019. Though not a member of G7, India is seen as a trusted partner on global matters.

At the summit, PM Modi is expected to hold important talks with global leaders on climate change, global security, and economic growth. His participation shows India’s increasing role in shaping global decisions and partnerships.

This visit strengthens India’s diplomatic efforts and reflects its growing influence on the world stage.
