PM Modi Inaugurates Redeveloped Railway Stations in Rajasthan, Bengal, and Jharkhand under Amrit Bharat Scheme

Bikaner/Jaipur | May 22, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Bikaner district in Rajasthan on Thursday, where he inaugurated the redeveloped Deshnok railway station and launched several projects under the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. This initiative is part of a significant effort to modernize India’s railway infrastructure, with projects totaling over ₹26,000 crore across various states, including Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Jharkhand.

The Prime Minister began his visit by offering prayers at the revered Karni Mata temple in Deshnok, located near the newly renovated railway station. The redesigned station, inspired by traditional temple architecture, is built to accommodate the large number of pilgrims visiting the temple each year. Modi was accompanied by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma during the inauguration.

In his address to the public in Palana, PM Modi flagged off the Bikaner-Mumbai Express from Deshnok, marking a significant improvement in the region’s rail connectivity. He reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing passenger facilities and regional infrastructure, stating, “India is not going to be scared of nuclear threats or global pressures.”

The event also included the virtual inauguration of 103 redeveloped ‘Amrit Stations’ across 18 states and Union Territories. Notably, three redeveloped stations in West Bengal—Panagarh, Kalyani Ghoshpara, and Joychandi Pahar—were inaugurated as part of this initiative. Panagarh and Kalyani Ghoshpara fall under the jurisdiction of the Eastern Railway, while Joychandi Pahar is managed by the South Eastern Railway, both headquartered in Kolkata. These stations now feature upgraded aesthetics, improved waiting areas, and better accessibility, making train travel more comfortable and efficient for passengers.

In Jharkhand, the Prime Minister virtually inaugurated three redeveloped stations—Govindpur Road, Rajmahal, and Shankarpur. A highlight of the event was the transformation of Govindpur Road railway station, located in the Khunti district under the Ranchi Division of the South Eastern Railway. Initially offering only basic amenities, the station has undergone a complete overhaul and now features modern facilities with an environmentally conscious design. This redevelopment was completed at a cost of approximately ₹6.65 crore.

Local dignitaries, including State Land and Revenue Minister Dipak Birua, former Union Minister Arjun Munda, and MLA Sudivya Gudiya, attended the inauguration event at Govindpur Road. The renovation of the station began with the foundation stone laid in February 2024, and the project has since been expedited under the Amrit Bharat mission.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aims to redevelop over 1,300 railway stations across India by providing better infrastructure, digitized services, and accessible amenities to passengers. With Thursday’s inauguration, the government has made another significant step toward enhancing railway travel and promoting regional development throughout the country.
