PM Modi to Visit Jammu & Kashmir on June 6, Inaugurate World’s Highest Rail Bridge

Jammu & Kashmir, June 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir on June 6, marking a significant moment in the region’s infrastructure journey. In a high-profile public programme at Katra, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for multiple development projects worth over ₹46,000 crore.

As a major highlight, PM Modi will inaugurate the Chenab Rail Bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge, standing 359 meters above the river. At around 11 AM, he will visit the bridge deck and mark this engineering marvel as a symbol of India’s infrastructural prowess. The 1,315-metre-long steel bridge has been designed to withstand extreme seismic and wind conditions and significantly improves travel time between Katra and Srinagar to just 3 hours.

He will then proceed to inaugurate the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge, constructed in difficult terrain to enhance connectivity across the region.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister will flag off two Vande Bharat Express trains connecting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar, ensuring faster, reliable, and comfortable travel for locals, pilgrims, and tourists.

In another milestone, PM Modi will dedicate the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) to the nation. Built at an estimated cost of ₹43,780 crore, the 272 km rail line includes 36 tunnels (totaling 119 km) and 943 bridges, enabling all-weather connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of India.

Focusing on last-mile road connectivity, PM Modi will also launch and lay foundation stones for critical highway and flyover projects. These include:

  • Widening of NH-701 (Rafiabad to Kupwara)

  • Shopian Bypass Road on NH-444

  • Flyovers at Sangrama Junction (NH-1) and Bemina Junction (NH-44)

Together worth over ₹1,952 crore, these projects aim to ease traffic congestion and strengthen border connectivity.

Further, PM Modi will lay the foundation of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence in Katra, a ₹350 crore project set to become the first medical college in Reasi district, boosting healthcare access in the region.

This visit reinforces the government’s commitment to integrating remote regions through world-class rail, road, and healthcare infrastructure.
