US Vice President J.D. Vance Embarks on Four-Day India Visit, Meets PM Modi, Tours Iconic Landmarks
New Delhi, April 21 — U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance arrived in New Delhi on Monday morning with his family, marking the start of a four-day official visit to India aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. Accompanied by his Indian-origin wife, Usha Vance, and their three children—Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel—the Vice President is set to participate in diplomatic discussions and cultural explorations across multiple Indian cities.
Vance’s arrival comes amid ongoing efforts between New Delhi and Washington to finalize a bilateral trade agreement. The two nations are working to address issues related to tariffs and market access, particularly in light of recent trade policy changes in the United States.
Shortly after they arrived at the Palam Airbase, where they were greeted by a senior Union Cabinet Minister, the Vance family visited the iconic Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in Delhi. They are also expected to explore local markets featuring traditional Indian crafts.
At 6:30 PM on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted Vice President Vance and his family at his official residence on Lok Kalyan Marg. The meeting will be followed by a formal dinner and will focus on enhancing strategic ties, regional security, and trade collaboration. The Indian delegation will include key figures such as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
From Delhi, the Vance family will travel to Jaipur late Monday night, where they will stay at the luxurious Rambagh Palace. Their itinerary includes visiting the historic Amer Fort on April 22, followed by a speech by Vice President Vance at the Rajasthan International Centre. His address is expected to cover the broader scope of India-U.S. relations under the Trump administration and will be attended by diplomats, foreign policy experts, and scholars.
On April 23, the Vances will head to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal and Shilpgram, an open-air emporium showcasing Indian handicrafts. They will return to Jaipur later that day and conclude their visit to India with their departure scheduled for April 24.
The Vice President is traveling with a delegation of senior American officials, including representatives from the Pentagon and the State Department, highlighting the strategic importance of this high-level visit.
