IMD Issues Heat Wave Warning Till April 25 for Several States, Yellow Alert in Place
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heat wave warning for several regions in the country, including South Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Vidarbha. A yellow alert has been announced for these areas, advising residents to prepare for soaring temperatures until April 25.
In a press release, the IMD stated that these states are likely to experience daytime temperatures significantly above normal, coupled with dry conditions and intense sunshine. The yellow alert indicates the potential for severe weather that may cause discomfort and health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations, such as children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
“The prevailing weather pattern and dry northwesterly winds are expected to maintain heat wave conditions in parts of North and Central India over the next few days,” the IMD noted.
In addition to the aforementioned areas, the IMD has forecast hot and humid weather in other regions, including Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat, up until April 25. While these locations are not under formal heat wave warnings, residents can expect intense heat and elevated humidity levels that may lead to discomfort during the day.
Authorities have urged residents in affected areas to take necessary precautions, such as staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, wearing loose and light-colored clothing, and regularly checking on vulnerable individuals. Farmers have also been advised to monitor the conditions of their crops and livestock closely due to increased evapotranspiration and potential heat stress.
State governments in these regions have been put on alert and may implement response measures, including opening cooling centers, restricting outdoor labor hours, and issuing advisories through local channels.
The IMD continues to monitor the evolving weather situation and has assured the public of timely updates and advisories in the coming days.
As summer intensifies across India, these early heat wave warnings highlight the changing climate patterns and the necessity for proactive preparedness.
