Kesari 2 Box Office Day 3: Akshay Kumar’s Film Collects ₹29.75 Cr, Trails Behind Sky Force
Akshay Kumar’s latest historical drama, *Kesari 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh*, has made a decent start at the Indian box office. The film collected ₹29.75 crore during its opening weekend, according to early trade figures. Starring Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan, Ananya Panday, and Regina Cassandra, the film closed its third day on a positive note with ₹12.25 crore on Sunday.
Although Kesari 2 showed improvement in its numbers on Day 3, it still trails behind Akshay Kumar’s recent blockbusters, *Sky Force* and *Bade Miyan Chote Miyan*. While *Sky Force* earned over ₹60 crore in its opening weekend earlier this year, Kesari has managed to collect less than half of that amount. Even the original *Kesari*, released in 2019, had a much stronger start with ₹56.56 crore in its first weekend.
On the plus side, Kesari 2 has outperformed Akshay’s other recent releases, such as Khel Khel Mein and Sarfira. The film received decent reviews, and its performance showed promise, particularly in cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. On Sunday, the overall occupancy for the film stood at 32.23 percent across 3,992 shows in India. Chennai recorded the highest occupancy at 72.25 percent, followed by Hyderabad at 46.25 percent and Bengaluru at 43.50 percent. In Mumbai and Delhi-NCR, the film’s occupancy was 28.75 percent and 35.25 percent, respectively.
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films, Kesari 2 is a dramatized retelling of the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy. The film aims to revisit a crucial yet less-highlighted chapter of India’s freedom struggle.
While ‘Kesari 2’s opening weekend collection has not met the expectations set by its predecessor or Akshay Kumar’s other recent successes, it continues to receive audience support in select areas. The film’s performance in the coming weekdays will be crucial in determining its overall box office run.
