Research institutes join hands to develop multigrain products
With the goal of improving nutrition in various products and promoting millets in the country
in light of the International Year of Millet, the ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley
(IIWBR) in Karnal and the ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR) in Hyderabad
have collaborated to develop wheat, millets, and barley-based multigrain products.
Dr Gyanendra Singh, Director of ICAR-IIWBR, and Dr C Tara Satyavathi, Director of
ICAR-IIMR, have signed an MoU.
The IIMR will assist in the quality evaluation of the developed goods, while the IIWBR will
conduct millet malting quality analysis. For the next five years, IIWBR scientists will create
blended products from wheat, barley, and millets. We have begun work on these products,
which include biscuits, cereal, and flour. The IIMR will evaluate the quality. Following
quality testing, the goods will be delivered to start-ups for production, promotion, and
commercialization, Dr. Gyandendra Singh explained.
These items will be created from wheat, millets, and barley. Concerning the benefits, the
director stated that the nutritious content of food products will improve, as well as diet
diversification.
