Schools, Colleges, Thermal Power Plants Shut Till Further Notice As Delhi Air Turns ‘Severe’

Delhi, November 17

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) directed the closing of all the educational institutions, including schools and colleges, till further notice, amid the staggering pollution levels.

The CAQM, which is an agency under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), also declared to put all the construction activities to halt and work from home for 50 per cent staff in government offices till November 21.

Moreover, in order to curb the deteriorating air quality in Delhi-NCR, trucks will not be allowed to enter Delhi till November 21, and it may get extended depending on the situation.

The commission also directed that of all the 11 thermal power plants operating within a 300-km radius of Delhi, six will be shut, and the remaining five will operate normally. These five thermal power plants are – NTPC Jhajjar, Mahatma Gandhi TPS Jhajjar, Panipat TPS HPGCL, Nabha Power Ltd Rajpura and Talwandi Sabo Mansa.

These emergency measures were taken to curb the deteriorating air quality in Delhi-NCR, which has been battling a toxic haze after Diwali festival.
