SGT University organizes a workshop on Defense Journalism

SGT University conducted a workshop on Defense Journalism for its journalism and communication students. The workshop was organized by the Faculty of Mass Communication and Media Technology, with the renowned defense journalist N.C. Bipindra, who has worked for major English newspapers and currently publishes his magazine ‘Defense Capital’, as the guest speaker. The workshop aimed to impart knowledge about defense journalism and train students to prepare news reports on defense-related issues.

N.C. Bipindra highlighted the importance of having in-depth knowledge of the structure and functioning of the military before reporting on defense-related issues. He also emphasized that journalists should have complete knowledge about the ranks of army officials and the badges they wear. Bipindra shared detailed information about the weapons, tanks, fighter planes, and warships of the Indian military. He also gave them press notes related to defense and trained them to prepare news reports.

Prof. Sushil Manav, Dean of FMMT, welcomed N.C. Bipindra and said that Defense Journalism is a unique type of journalism, and only a handful of selected journalists in the country are present in this field. He identified N.C. Bipindra as one of the top defense journalists in the country. He mentioned that the lifestyle of military officers is very attractive, and therefore, it is a different kind of experience to do journalism among them.

 

Prof. Shashi Kumar Pandey stated that the university organizes lectures and workshops of prominent journalists from time to time for the benefit of students. On this occasion, Bhavna, a final-year student of BJMC, was honored for ranking first in the radio bulletin assignment. Prof. Kranti Anand, Dr. Sarika Takhar, Prof. Vishwambar Bose, Dr. Teji Isha, Dr. Yash Vats, Prof. Tushar Guliya, and others were present at the event.
