SGT University Students Explore Camera Acting at Workshop with Dr. Suraj Das
The School of Emerging Media, Communication & Film Studies at SGT University organized an acting workshop at the Media Centre, giving students an opportunity to understand the craft of acting through practical learning and professional guidance.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Suraj Das, Filmmaker and Actor, who introduced students to several important aspects of acting and on-camera performance. The session attracted enthusiastic participation from students representing different departments of the university.
The workshop focused on the fundamentals required to create a convincing performance. Students explored voice modulation, facial expressions, body language, movement and camera presence, while also learning how different elements of performance work together.
One of the key discussions focused on the four pillars of acting — voice, body, emotion and imagination. Students were encouraged to understand how these elements contribute to creating believable characters and authentic performances.
The session also explained the concept of Navras, helping students understand different emotional states and how emotions can be effectively portrayed through performance.
Another important aspect of the workshop was understanding the difference between theatre acting and camera acting. Students learned that performances for the camera often require subtle expressions, controlled movements and a natural approach.
The theoretical discussions were followed by practical exercises, allowing participants to perform different situations and emotions in front of the camera. These activities helped students overcome hesitation, improve confidence and become more comfortable with performance.
Beyond acting, the workshop also addressed personality development, communication skills and stage presence. Students gained valuable insights into the discipline and preparation required for professional performance.
The interactive session gave aspiring actors and film enthusiasts an opportunity to learn directly from an industry professional while experiencing the practical demands of camera performance.
The workshop reflects SGT University’s emphasis on experiential and industry-oriented learning, helping students connect academic knowledge with practical skills and real-world opportunities in the media and entertainment industry.
