Suzuki Motorcycle India Lays Foundation for ₹1,200 Crore Plant in Haryana
Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) has taken a significant step toward expanding its presence in the Indian market by laying the foundation stone for a new manufacturing facility at IMT Kharkhoda in Haryana. With an initial investment of ₹1,200 crore, the greenfield plant is poised to become a major contributor to regional development and industrial growth.
Spread across 100 acres, the plant is designed to have an annual production capacity of 7.5 lakh two-wheelers in its first phase. The facility is expected to become operational by 2027, significantly enhancing SMIPL’s production capabilities to meet growing domestic demand.
The plant will also generate employment for around 2,000 people, aligning with the Government of India’s push for industrial expansion, job creation, and global investment in the region. According to Suzuki officials, the facility will operate under the principles of lean manufacturing and incorporate modern automation and energy-efficient systems, keeping in line with Suzuki’s global vision of sustainability and carbon neutrality.
Kenichi Umeda, Managing Director of SMIPL, highlighted the strategic importance of the Kharkhoda plant, saying, “By establishing our facility at IMT Kharkhoda, we look forward to contributing to the region’s development, generating employment, and supporting the government’s vision for industrial progress.”
Umeda further emphasized that the plant would also enhance support to customers, dealer partners, and suppliers, strengthening Suzuki’s position in the Indian two-wheeler market.
This new facility not only showcases Suzuki’s commitment to local development and sustainable manufacturing but also reinforces India’s status as a key market for global automobile expansion.
