Train Services Suspended to Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram After Landslide in Haflong Section

Agartala, June 24, 2025: Train services connecting South Assam, Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram to the rest of India have been suspended due to a landslide affecting the railway track in the New Haflong-Jatinga Lampur section, according to officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).

The suspension began on the evening of June 23, as the tracks in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section were deemed unsafe. NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, reported that boulders and a large mass of earth had fallen onto the tracks, prompting the halt of train movement to ensure passenger safety.

Preliminary investigations suggest that ongoing road repair work in the area may have caused the slope between the road and the railway line to give way, resulting in debris falling onto the tracks. Consequently, several trains have been canceled or short-terminated until further notice.

The NFR has formally requested the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to deploy the necessary manpower and machinery to stabilize the slope and safeguard the railway infrastructure. This vital railway link acts as a lifeline for the landlocked northeastern states of Tripura, Mizoram, and Manipur, as well as parts of Assam’s Barak Valley.

Efforts are underway to restore services as quickly as possible, but safety remains the top priority, officials emphasized.
