The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially announced the results of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026, bringing relief, excitement, and renewed motivation to thousands of aspirants across the country. Candidates can check their qualifying status by searching for their roll numbers in the result PDF published on the official UPSC website.
A total of 13,343 candidates have qualified for the next stage of the recruitment process—the Civil Services Main Examination 2026. These candidates have been shortlisted for 1,016 vacancies announced for this year’s Civil Services Examination cycle.
The Civil Services Examination is one of India’s most competitive recruitment processes. It serves as the gateway to prestigious positions such as the IAS, IPS, IFS, and several other central government roles. Each year, lakhs of aspirants participate in the examination, making qualification for the Mains a significant achievement.
UPSC has informed all successful candidates that they must complete the mandatory registration and detailed application process between June 19 and June 28, 2026, to be eligible for the Main Examination. Candidates are advised to carefully verify their personal information and submit all required details within the specified timeline.
Compared to the previous recruitment cycle, there has been a slight decline in the number of qualified candidates. In 2025, 14,161 candidates qualified for the Main Examination against 1,087 vacancies. This year, both the number of vacancies and the shortlisted candidates have decreased marginally.
The Commission has also clarified that the marks obtained by candidates, category-wise cut-off scores, and answer keys for the Preliminary Examination will not be released immediately. These details will be made available only after the completion of the Civil Services Examination 2026 and the Indian Forest Service Examination 2026, and upon the declaration of the final results.
For thousands of candidates, this announcement marks the beginning of a new phase of preparation. While the journey ahead remains challenging, qualifying for the Mains examination is a major milestone and a moment of celebration for both aspirants and their families. As preparations intensify, all eyes will now be on the next stage of one of India’s most sought-after examinations.
