IAF, Army Chiefs Take Historic Sortie in LCA Tejas Fighter Jet
In a remarkable display of unity and military strength, Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi participated in a historic joint flight aboard the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas. The 45-minute sortie took place at Yelahanka Air Force Station, marking the first occasion when both chiefs of the armed forces flew together in this Indian-made fighter jet.
With Air Chief Marshal Singh at the controls and General Dwivedi serving as co-pilot, the flight highlighted the operational capabilities of the LCA Tejas and emphasized India’s progress in indigenous defense manufacturing. This event showcased the growing synergy within the Indian Armed Forces and demonstrated their readiness to face any challenges.
Following the flight, General Dwivedi described the experience as the “best moment of my life.” He fondly recalled his days at the National Defence Academy (NDA) with the Air Chief and humorously noted that had he met him earlier, he might have chosen the Air Force and pursued a career as a fighter pilot. He expressed admiration for IAF pilots, acknowledging the significant challenges they face.
The historic sortie occurred just a day before Aero India 2025, scheduled to begin on February 10 in Bengaluru. This event will showcase cutting-edge aerospace and defense technologies, emphasizing India’s collaboration with global partners, including the United States. Over two dozen American exhibitors are expected, reflecting the strengthening defense ties between the two nations.
With the LCA Tejas leading the way, India’s defense capabilities continue to advance, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to self-reliance and innovation in military aviation.
