Rail Services Restored Between Chennai and Arakkonam After Freight Train Fire Disruption

Chennai, July 14, 2025: Train services between Chennai and Arakkonam were restored today following a major disruption caused by a freight train fire incident. The restoration comes a day after a diesel truck in a freight train en route from Ennore to Walajahbad caught fire, halting operations on the busy route.

The incident occurred on Sunday, when one of the diesel trucks attached to the freight train ignited, triggering an immediate emergency response from railway authorities. To prevent further hazards, electric lines were promptly switched off, and several passenger and freight services were either partially cancelled or diverted.

Railway officials and emergency teams worked through the day and night to safely remove the charred diesel truck from the tracks, ensuring there was no damage to the railway infrastructure. Restoration efforts were completed today, and regular services on the Chennai–Arakkonam line resumed without further delay.

The fire did not result in any casualties, and officials have assured that an internal investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, railway authorities have commended the swift action of emergency crews and staff for ensuring that services were restored efficiently, minimizing the impact on commuters and freight operations.

The Chennai–Arakkonam section is a critical rail corridor for both commuter and freight traffic in Tamil Nadu, and its quick restoration reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to safety and operational continuity.
