Indian Railways to Run 8,000 More Special Trains for Festive Rush

To manage the massive festive rush during Diwali and Chhath, Indian Railways has announced the operation of around 8,000 more special trains in the coming days. This move aims to ensure comfortable and timely travel for passengers across the country.

According to the Railway Ministry, a total of 12,011 special trains are being operated this festive season, compared to 7,724 last year — marking a significant rise in services. Between October 1 and October 19, 2025, Indian Railways has already operated 3,960 special trains, carrying over one crore passengers.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the Railway Board’s War Room to review travel operations and appreciated the staff for their continuous efforts. He also extended Diwali greetings to the team.

The Northern, Central, and Western Railway zones have contributed the highest number of special trains, with 1,919, 1,998, and 1,501 respectively. Other zones, including East Central and North Western, have also added more services to meet regional demand.

In the New Delhi area, which includes Anand Vihar, Hazrat Nizamuddin, and Shakur Basti stations, over 15.17 lakh passengers travelled between October 16–19 — a rise of 1.51 lakh compared to last year.

Special arrangements such as extra ticket counters, holding areas, clean washrooms, potable water, and real-time train information displays have been set up to ensure hassle-free travel.

This large-scale operation highlights the Indian Railways’ commitment to providing safe and comfortable journeys during India’s busiest festive season.
