Sleeper Bus Overturns in Delhi, Two Killed, 23 Injured

A tragic road accident in the Karol Bagh area of Delhi claimed the lives of two people and left at least 23 others injured after a sleeper bus overturned in the early hours of Wednesday, March 25, 2026. The bus, registered in Jaipur and operated by Shakti Travels, was carrying around 30 passengers at the time of the incident.

According to officials, the accident occurred near Hanuman Mandir Chowk around 1:10 a.m. A distress call was immediately received by the Delhi Fire Services, prompting the dispatch of rescue teams and fire engines to the scene without delay.

Preliminary reports indicate that the bus lost control and overturned, with overspeeding suspected as a primary cause. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Pankaj Kumar, has been detained by police for questioning as the investigation proceeds.

The accident resulted in the death of 30-year-old Shehbaz Alam, while the identity of the second victim has yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, heavy machinery, including a JCB, was used in rescue operations to free passengers trapped inside the vehicle.

The injured were quickly transported to nearby hospitals, including Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment. Officials have stated that most of the injured are now stable.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes under the flyover, with debris scattered across the road and locals stepping in to assist with rescue efforts before emergency teams arrived.

This incident raises further concerns about road safety, particularly regarding interstate buses operating on busy city routes. Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed investigation to determine the precise cause and ensure stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent such accidents in the future.
