BJP Sweeps Gujarat Municipal Corporations Elections 2026

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a significant victory in the Gujarat civic elections, winning all 15 municipal corporations where voting took place. The elections were held on April 26, 2026, with over 4.18 crore eligible voters participating across the state.

One of the major highlights was the BJP’s clean sweep in the Morbi and Porbandar municipal corporations, where the party secured all 52 seats in each corporation. This victory reflects the party’s strong influence and support in the region.

The BJP also performed exceptionally well in major cities. In Ahmedabad, the party won 160 out of 192 seats, while the Congress party secured 32 seats. In Surat, the BJP dominated with 115 out of 120 seats, leaving Congress with just one seat. Similar trends were observed in Rajkot and Vadodara, where the BJP obtained large majorities.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which previously won 27 seats, managed to secure only four seats this time, indicating a significant decline in its performance.

Additionally, the BJP was victorious in all newly formed municipal corporations, including Navsari, Gandhidham, Vapi, and Surendranagar. These elections were conducted under revised norms for Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservations, which involved extensive restructuring of wards.

These results highlight the BJP’s continued dominance in Gujarat’s political landscape. With strong performances across urban areas and newly formed civic bodies, the party has reinforced its position ahead of future elections.
