Iran Fires Missiles At Israel Amid Lebanon Escalation
Tensions in the Middle East escalated late Sunday night when Iran launched multiple ballistic missiles toward Israel in response to ongoing Israeli military operations in Lebanon. This attack came amid increasing regional instability and warnings from Tehran that further Israeli aggression would provoke retaliation.
According to the Israeli military, several missiles were fired at Israeli territory around 10 PM local time, activating emergency sirens in multiple cities. Israeli defense systems reportedly intercepted the incoming missiles, and residents were later informed they could leave their protective shelters.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the missile strikes, stating that they targeted the Ramat David airbase in Israel. Tehran characterized the missile attacks as a direct response to the deaths and displacement of civilians in southern Lebanon, particularly in the Tyre and Nabatieh regions.
The IRGC warned that the missile attack was merely a “warning” and threatened broader action if Israel continued its military operations in Lebanon or launched military responses against Iran. Iranian officials also accused Israel of violating the recently announced ceasefire agreement in Lebanon by continuing strikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs, commonly known as Dahiyeh.
The latest Israeli strikes in Beirut reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least two people and injuries to several others. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the operation aimed to target a Hezbollah command center.
Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump reportedly urged restraint, expressing his intention to speak directly with Netanyahu to discourage further retaliation. Trump cautioned that another military response could escalate the conflict and jeopardize ongoing diplomatic negotiations involving Iran.
The conflict has sparked international concerns about a potential wider regional war involving Iran, Israel, Hezbollah, and Lebanon. Since March, thousands of people have been reported killed in Lebanon due to ongoing Israeli military operations. Global leaders continue to call for de-escalation as fears of a broader Middle East conflict intensify.
