SGT University Hosts International Seminar on GST 2.0, Compliance and Competitiveness

SGT University’s School of Law, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), organised a two-day International Seminar on “Compliance to Competitiveness: GST 2.0 Transforming Entrepreneurial Ecosystem.”

The seminar brought together distinguished judicial experts, senior officials from GST and Customs, advocates, academicians, researchers and industry professionals from India and abroad to deliberate on the evolving landscape of taxation and its impact on India’s economic and entrepreneurial environment.

Chief Justice of the High Court of Sikkim, A. Muhamed Mustaque, was among the distinguished speakers at the seminar. Sharing valuable insights into the relationship between law, economics, governance and technology, he encouraged students to look at taxation through a broader interdisciplinary lens.

His session explored aspects of constitutional economics, taxation and fiscal justice, helping students understand that fiscal laws extend beyond technical compliance and have wider implications for governance, economic development and society. The interaction also encouraged students to critically examine how policy and taxation frameworks influence businesses, citizens and the overall economy.

The two-day academic programme featured discussions around GST 2.0, regulatory efficiency, compliance challenges, ease of doing business and the changing entrepreneurial ecosystem in India. The deliberations highlighted the need for responsive regulatory frameworks that can support economic growth while ensuring transparency and accountability.

The seminar also reinforced the importance of connecting classroom learning with contemporary developments in law, taxation and public policy. By bringing together perspectives from the judiciary, government, academia and industry, the event created a platform for meaningful academic exchange.

The initiative reflected SGT University’s commitment to interdisciplinary education and experiential learning, providing students with broader perspectives on the legal, economic and social dimensions of taxation and entrepreneurship.
