Delhi To Organise Free Somnath Yatra For Devotees
The Delhi Government is set to organize a free pilgrimage for approximately 1,300 devotees to the revered Somnath Temple this week. The initiative, titled ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv – Somnath Yatra,’ aims to reconnect citizens with their spiritual roots while celebrating the temple’s significant cultural and religious importance.
According to officials, a special train carrying the devotees will depart from Safdarjung Railway Station on April 30. The train will be flagged off by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and is expected to arrive in Somnath the following morning. Pilgrims will stay from May 1 to May 3, during which they will have the opportunity to offer prayers at the temple and visit nearby religious sites.
The entire yatra will be free of cost, with the Gujarat government managing arrangements for accommodation, food, drinking water, and other essentials. This initiative is part of a broader effort to highlight the significance of Somnath, marking 1,000 years of unbroken faith associated with the shrine.
Speaking about the program, the Chief Minister described it as more than just a journey. She emphasized that the yatra offers a chance to reconnect with Sanatan traditions, India’s cultural essence, and shared civilizational heritage. She also highlighted Somnath as a symbol of resilience and enduring faith, noting that it has withstood numerous challenges throughout history.
Moreover, the initiative aligns with the vision of promoting national unity and social harmony. Officials believe that such programs strengthen the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” by encouraging people, especially the younger generation, to engage more deeply with their traditions.
The Delhi Government hopes that the yatra will provide a spiritually enriching experience for all participants while reinforcing India’s rich cultural legacy.
