Delhi Fully Ready to Host 2036 Olympics, Says CM Rekha Gupta
New Delhi | June 24, 2025: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday asserted that India is fully prepared to host the 2036 Olympic Games, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a global sporting destination.
Speaking at the Olympic Day Run 2025 held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, CM Gupta said, “Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India is building world-class sports infrastructure and nurturing athletes for global competition. Delhi and the country are fully ready to welcome the Olympic Games in 2036.”
The event, organised as part of the International Olympic Committee’s ‘Let’s Move’ campaign, turned the capital into a vibrant celebration of fitness, inclusivity, and Olympic spirit. Thousands of residents participated, underlining the growing enthusiasm for sports across India.
The run was jointly flagged off by CM Gupta and Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and was attended by Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha, among other dignitaries.
CM Gupta referred to PM Modi’s January 2025 statement, where he called India’s Olympic bid an “ambitious but achievable goal.” She stated that the commitment to hosting the Games is rooted in a broader national movement toward athletic excellence and international cooperation.
With increasing government investment in sports infrastructure and grassroots development, India is positioning itself as a serious contender to host the world’s most prestigious sporting event in 2036.
