IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Delhi, Gurugram as Monsoon Nears

New Delhi | June 24, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Delhi and Gurugram, as the southwest monsoon is set to reach the region by June 24. According to IMD officials, weather conditions are favourable for the monsoon to advance into Delhi-NCR, Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Jammu & Kashmir within the next 48 hours.

On June 23, Delhi-NCR experienced pre-monsoon showers, and IMD has predicted moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and cloudy skies from June 23 to June 29.

Throughout the week, the region will see high humidity, with morning levels peaking between 79–90%, while evenings will remain humid at 55–65%. Daytime temperatures will hover around 33–35°C, and nighttime lows will stay between 25–28°C.

Here’s the day-wise outlook for Delhi-NCR:

  • June 23-24: Moderate to heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning; temperature 33–34°C

  • June 25-27: Partly cloudy skies with chances of rain or thunderstorms; no major alerts

  • June 28-29: Continued possibility of thundershowers; high humidity and unsettled conditions

Gurugram is expected to see intermittent spells of showers and thunderstorms through the week. Although no severe weather warnings are issued after June 24, residents are advised to stay alert for sudden downpours and localised storm activity.

The IMD’s alert underscores the shifting monsoon pattern across northern India, with the capital region expected to witness a wet and humid week. Commuters are advised to plan accordingly and stay updated with real-time weather reports.
