In an exciting event in Las Vegas, Dell introduced a new line of powerful AI-driven PCs powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus processors. These new computers, called “Copilot Plus PCs,” boast impressive built-in AI hardware and feature advanced AI capabilities across the Windows operating system.
Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Technologies, highlighted the groundbreaking architecture of these PCs, which integrate a CPU, GPU, and NPU (neural processing unit) to efficiently manage complex tasks. This innovative design ensures exceptional speed, efficiency, and all-day battery life.
The Snapdragon X Elite processor will be featured in the sleek XPS 13 laptops, while the more accessible Inspiron 14 and 14 Plus models will use the Snapdragon X Plus processor. Both chips are based on Qualcomm’s Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU, and Hexagon NPU architectures. The X Plus has a 10-core CPU, while the X Elite boasts a more powerful 12-core CPU.
Qualcomm’s new PC chips are specifically designed for AI, with a standout feature being the 45 TOPS (trillion operations per second) NPU, which outperforms current AMD and Intel platforms in AI processing. This makes them ideal for tasks involving machine learning and generative AI.
The Copilot Plus AI PCs come with a host of AI features, including “Recall,” a tool described as a photographic memory for your PC. Recall allows users to search through a log of previous actions on their computers using offline AI models. Other AI-driven features include Live Captions, CoCreator, and background removal for both photos and videos.
Dell’s move to use Qualcomm’s processors marks a significant shift in the PC industry, offering powerful alternatives to traditional Intel and AMD chips and paving the way for a new era of AI-enhanced computing. Expect these advanced laptops to hit the market later this year.
