Department of Mental Health Nursing, SGT University organises National Level Inter-Collegiate Debate competition (Online) on the occasion of Zero Discrimination Day

Nightingale association of stress management under the Department of Mental Health Nursing, SGT University organized National Level Inter-collegiate Debate competition (Online) on the occasion of Zero Discrimination Day under the theme “Discrimination against Women and Girls” on 7th march 2022 under the guidance of Prof. Ms. Raman Deep, HOD Mental Health Nursing at Faculty of Nursing. The event was coordinated by Ms. Suman Vashisht, Associate professor, SGT University and Mr. Abhishek Singh, Tutor, SGT University. The event moderation was done by Ms. Nicky Tyagi, Tutor, Faculty of Nursing, SGT University.
This debate competition was conducted with a view to extending the opportunity to the younger generation to express their views regarding the topic after thorough research and bring them together on a single platform. At the outset, a welcome address was given by Ms. Nicky Tyagi, Tutor, Faculty of Nursing followed by an unfolding of the theme by Prof. Raman Deep, HOD, MHN Department, SGT University. Then, the key address was given by Dr. Reena Nayyar, Executive Director, SGT University after which the debate competition started.
The competition was held in two slots. The Judges for the first slot were Mrs. Xavier Belsiyal, Associate Professor, AIIMS, Rishikesh and Ms. Arvinder Kaur Pabla, Senior Trainer and certified Master Coach, SGT University. The Judges for the second slot were Mrs. Geetanjali Kalyan, Faculty, National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Ms. Arvinder Kaur Pabla.
A total of 17 colleges from different states of India participated in this competition. In each team, one participant spoke ‘for the theme’, and the other participant spoke ‘against the theme’. The students enthusiastically participated in this event. All the participants performed tremendously well and made a great impact on the each other by presenting various facts and figures related to their argument.
Results were announced by Dr. Reena Nayyar, Executive Director, SGT University. The 1st position was secured by team C.D 01 from Jamia Hamdard, Rufaida College of Nursing, Delhi and team CD09 from AIIMS College of Nursing, Rishikesh was runner up. As the event was conducted in virtual mode, the teams will be awarded trophies and certificates of appreciation soon. All the contestants will also recognize with participation certificates. The Event was ended up by proposing a vote of thanks by Ms. Ruchika Duggal, Assistant Professor, SGT University.
The debate intended to extend opportunities to express the view of the young students to bring together conclusive ideas on a single platform. The event was well appreciated by one and all. It was a great learning experience for everyone present.
