Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology and Department of Public Health Dentistry jointly celebrate “World No Tobacco Day 2022”

Advanced Stomato-Diagnostician Association under the aegis of the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology in collaboration with INNOV8 Oral Health Care Association under the aegis of the Department of Public Health Dentistry celebrated World No Tobacco Day 2022” on 30th and 31st May 2022.

On 30th May an outreach camp was organized at Pelpa village where a total of 85 patients were screened and educated regarding the harmful effects of tobacco from which 19 patients were given treatment in the Mobile Dental Van. A Nukkad Natak was performed by the Interns depicting various harmful effects of tobacco on the oral cavity, body, and the environment. Nukkad Natak attracted a lot of attention from the elderly to the youth of the village. This was followed by a health talk by Dr. Sachin Chand & Dr. Monika Singh. Their talk focused on the different forms of tobacco, the ill effects of tobacco on the oral cavity, and the early detection of precancerous oral lesions and Oral Cancer.

On 31st May a health talk was given by Dr. Preetika Yadav, MDS 1st Year, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology to the patients in the dental OPD about Tobacco and Oral Cancer. Pamphlets emphasizing the ill effects of tobacco and sensitizing Tobacco cessation services in the Department were distributed to the patients in the dental OPD. Nukkad Natak was performed by the Interns in the Dental porch area which was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Sham Lal Singla, Advisor, SGT University, HODs, Faculty Members, Interns, and students. The target audience was the non-teaching staff and they actively participated and enjoyed the vibrant performance by the Interns.

The events spread over two days and were conceived by Dr. Shourya Tandon and Dr. Astha Chaudhry. The event was coordinated by Dr. Abhinav Bhargava and Dr. Komal Sharma.

The enthusiasm from the audience demonstrated the growing need and demand for more community-based awareness programs to fight the ill effects of tobacco.
