Faculty of Dental Sciences conducts several events under the theme of “We need food, not tobacco”
On May 31, 2023, The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Faculty of Dental Sciences, SGT University observed World No Tobacco Day. Globally, May 31 is commemorated as World No Tobacco Day every year. It is an annual event aimed at raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and encouraging people to quit smoking. By adopting the official theme of this year, 2023, “We need food, not tobacco”, the department organized several events like oral health- check and treatment camp, free teeth cleaning of tobacco users, tobacco cessation counseling, and spreading the message of Tobacco -A Thread to Environment and Health, at Sanskaar School, in collaboration of Publicity Team. The Dental team took the initiative under the direction of Dr. Shourya Tandon (Prof. & Head and Associate Dean). The Dental team was headed by Dr. Meenakshi Chopra (Reader, Department of Public Health Dentistry), along with 2 Post Graduates, Dr. Neha (Pedodontics), and Dr Aashi (Orthodontics), and 6 Interns, Ishan, Amit, Gaurav, Jatin, Lokesh and Lakshay and one attendant Mr Sunil Kumar. Thirty-two patients, including twenty males and ten females, were examined, and ten patients were treated in the mobile dental van at the camp location. Interns imparted Oral health talk to community residents educating and motivating them to quit tobacco. Patients were invited to the SGT tobacco cessation center for counseling. The general population gave positive feedback and appreciated the check-up and patient care provided by the Dental Team. They acknowledged how the Dental team compassionately attended to their problems. The goal of the oral health examination was to raise community knowledge of and appreciation for the value of oral health.
