Heavy rainfall and cloudy skies during monsoon weather conditions in India
Several parts of India are witnessing unsettled weather conditions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting rainfall, thunderstorms and locally heavy rain across different regions. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to monitor official weather updates and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
For September 28, the IMD has issued a heavy-rain warning for Uttarakhand, where isolated heavy rainfall is expected along with thunderstorms and lightning at several places. The weather department has also warned that heavy spells in vulnerable areas may create risks such as waterlogging, landslides and disruption to traffic.
Parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are also expected to experience rainfall and thunderstorms. The latest forecasts indicate isolated to scattered rainfall over Bihar, while a weather system over northern parts of central Uttar Pradesh is influencing conditions across the region.
In Assam and Meghalaya, rainfall and thunderstorms are also possible as part of the wider weather activity across Northeast India. The IMD has indicated that heavy rainfall could affect parts of the Northeast during the following days, making local weather monitoring important for residents and travellers.
Weather conditions may also affect road travel, particularly in hilly and low-lying areas. Uttarakhand remains particularly vulnerable to landslides and waterlogging during periods of heavy rainfall. Authorities and residents in affected areas are therefore advised to remain alert and follow official disaster-management instructions.
The weather department has also advised caution for fishermen in parts of the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal because of a developing low-pressure system that was expected to strengthen further.
